From a young age, Dr. Yarnell was interested in biology, physiology, and helping people, so a career in medicine seemed like the way to go. Initially, she wanted to become an ophthalmologist, but after observing (and passing out during) a cataract surgery, she knew she needed to change direction. So, she decided to shadow a dentist, and according to her, it was love at first sight! She likes that she gets to work with her hands while also establishing one-on-one relationships with each patient.
Dr. Yarnell earned a B.S. in Biology from Lyon College before going on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Following dental school, she worked with a dental anesthesiologist for four years at an outpatient surgery center. Eventually, she got her conscious moderate sedation certificate from Oregon Health Science Center University.
The following year, she passed the exam to become a Master of the College of Sedation Dentistry through the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
Today, she is an active member of many professional organizations:
Dr. Yarnell and her husband, Tim, got married in 2014, and they now have a young daughter, Anna Grace, as well as three chihuahuas. One of her favorite things to do in her off time is sing karaoke, and no, she is upfront that she is NOT good at it. That doesn’t make it any less fun though! Country music is her favorite, but classic rock is a close second.
